We are now offering cervical disc arthroplasty (artificial disc or disc replacement surgery). This type of surgery may be beneficial for selected patients with very specific disorders in the cervical spine. The typical candidate for disc replacement surgery has a single disc herniation that has not responded to conservative treatment. While it is natural for patients to want the “latest technology”, it is important to understand that this surgery is not for everyone, nor is it necessarily better than standard surgical treatment for many patients. Only after careful clinical evaluation can we determine if you are a candidate for this procedure. Artificial disc surgery is not currently recommended for patients older than 60 years of age
